Art at the Library
By Tana Elias -- Library Web Resources Coordinator Everyone knows the library is for books, but many of Madison’s libraries also serve as art galleries featuring works by local artists. From oils and pastels, to contemporary photography, artists of all ages show their work in our libraries. At the Central Library’s second floor gallery, displays change monthly and are coordinated by Trent Miller, Youth Services Library Assistant and an artist himself. “I really enjoy the broad variety of exhibits that we are able to present to the public. From first time presenters to very established artists, we are truly a gallery for the entire public,” says Miller. Upcoming exhibits at the Central Library are Art Paul Schlosser’s “Patterns and Snowpeople” (Dec), “2009 Photo Exhibition on US-China Friendship” presented by Graduate Programs & East Asian Legal Studies Center UW Law School (Jan), “Rogue’s Alphabet” by Michael Kress-Russick (Feb), “Friends of Cherokee Marsh” by Northside Artists Group (Mar). Previous exhibitors include S.V. Medaris, Tom Linfeld and the Children of the Respite Center. Upcoming exhibits at Alicia Ashman Branch include “Light, Shadow and Tone: People, Places, Things” by Margaret (Peggy) Moore (Nov-Dec) and “Art Felt” by Deb Lueders (Jan-Feb). Featured artwork is “Cornfed Broadside” by S.V. Medaris
