Foundation grants enhancing collections

If you’re not asking, “What is a Playaway?” you’re probably already saying, “I love Playaways!”

A Playaway is a preloaded, easy to play audiobook in a small case that contains the entire book, no matter how long the text is! A generous grant from Madison Community Foundation established the collection at the Monroe Street Branch, and the Madison Public Library Foundation gave a grant to establish Playaway collections at both the Sequoya and Pinney branches.

“Playaways make audiobooks even more accessible,” notes Lisa Mettauer, outreach librarian at Central Library. “They’re smaller and easy to take with you on vacation, while commuting, or anytime. You don’t need a complicated device to download content, and you don’t have to change cassette tapes or CDs to hear the whole book. “

The collections include both children and adult titles, and the library system now has over 1,700 titles in the collection from which to choose. Holds may be placed on Playaways via LINKcat and picked up at any branch in our Madison Public Library system.
