Construction Begins on Madison's Central Library - March 27, 2012
Madison, WI – Madison Public Library Board President Tripp Widder, Madison Mayor Paul Soglin and J.H. Findorff and Sons, Inc. President Rich Lynch will officially kick off the $29.5 million project by removing the building's cornerstone on Tuesday, March 27 at 10 am at 201 W. Mifflin Street. The cornerstone, originally set in 1965, protected a time capsule consisting of books, newspapers, and library materials from 1965. These materials will be on display at the construction kickoff, weather permitting, or available for media examination after the event. The new and improved library will be completed in 2013. At the same time the library is under construction, the streets and sidewalks on Henry, Mifflin, and Fairchild Streets are also being upgraded. The Central Library is currently operating at an interim location at 126 S. Hamilton Street.
