James Ruhly, Director

Jim has practiced law in Madison since 1968, with a focus on employment and labor law primarily in the public sector. He has been involved on governance boards for a number of non-profit organizations including Overture Center for the Arts, Madison Opera, Children’s Theatre of Madison, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Dane County, Badger Chapter of the American Red Cross among others. He and his wife Carol, herself a Madison native and UW graduate, live on Madison’s west side and are the proud parents of two grown boys. Jim joined the MPLF board in 2009 and has served on the Human Resources and Board Development committees. He grew up in Birmingham, Michigan where his folks were active in the local library (and have benches dedicated to them) in a household of overflowing book shelves. He is a graduate of Michigan State University and the UW law school.
