Anonymous Donor Offers $50,000 Matching Gift to Boost Year-End Annual Fund Contributions

An anonymous donor is giving Madison Public Library Foundation a giant surprise holiday gift by committing up to a $50,000 match for all donations to the foundation's annual fund through the end of the year, foundation Executive Director Jenni Collins announced Monday.

All gifts to the annual fund made between now and December 31 will double thanks to the match, so now is the perfect time to give.

Annual fund donations are applied to anything that enhances library programs, services, collections and resources, as well as staff support. This year, annual fund gifts supported an early literacy program, literacy efforts for non-English-speaking populations, professional development for employees, internships for minority teens, and more.

"We hope the community will take advantage of the opportunity to give toward our annual fund in the next two weeks since it will double their gift, thanks to this generous match," Collins said. "This is a great opportunity to show that the library is valued and for everyone to get involved in whatever way they can, becuase gifts of every amount make a difference."

There are several easy ways to give:

  • online at mplfoundation.org/donate
  • by mail (Madison Public Library Foundation, 201 W. Mifflin St., Madison, WI 53703)
  • by calling the foundation office at 608.266.6318 with a credit card, or through a distribution from an IRA for those 70-1/2 or older (ask about tax benefits)
  • at the foundation office, on the third floor of Central Library
