Second Annual Rock & Read Fundraiser to Benefit Library’s Summer Reading Clubs
MADISON, Wis. (Tuesday, May 12, 2015) – Madison Public Library Foundation invites library enthusiasts of all ages to its second annual Rock & Read on Sunday, June 21, from 3-6 p.m. at Capital Brewery, 7734 Terrace Ave., Middleton. The event, which this year will benefit Madison Public Library’s Summer Reading Clubs, is an opportunity for the community to unite in celebration of literacy and the city’s nine public libraries.
Wisconsin Badgers men’s basketball coach Bo Ryan, who led his team to the NCAA final this year, will again share his passion for reading at the fundraiser. Local bands Yid Vicious and the Madgadders will entertain guests. Activities include kids’ crafts from Monroe Street Arts Center, games, registration for the Summer Reading Clubs, a Paddle Cake Wheel and raffle prizes. Burgers, hot dogs, juice, milk, soda and Capital beer will be available for purchase. In-Kind Supporter Schoep’s will give away free ice cream. All fathers and father figures will receive a free raffle ticket.
“Rock & Read is the perfect opportunity to get families excited about the library’s Summer Reading Clubs,” said Madison Public Library Foundation Executive Director Jenni Collins. “Research shows that kids who read throughout the summer are less likely to fall victim to the ‘summer slide’ and do a better job of retaining what they’ve learned during the school year. Madison Public Library plays an even more important role in encouraging literacy and learning when school’s out of session.”
Rock & Read tickets are available now at mplfoundation.org for a suggested donation of $5 each, and family sponsor packages are available as well.
