Lunch for Libraries with Mark Bittman
June 18 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
We’re thrilled to announce that our Lunch for Libraries fundraiser will be a virtual event! We’re incredibly grateful to author and food journalist Mark Bittman for his flexibility.
What is the “best” diet to follow? Do we need to count calories? Are carbs really that bad for you? Learn the answers to these questions and many more on Thursday, June 18, at Madison Public Library Foundation’s 2020 Lunch for Libraries live-streamed fundraiser with Bittman. His appearance will be in conversation with NPR’s To the Best of Our Knowledge producer Shannon Henry Kleiber.
One of the most respected cooking authorities and acclaimed food writers in America, Bittman teamed up with Yale physician David Katz, M.D., founder of True Health Initiative, to pen How to Eat: All Your Food and Diet Questions Answered. Bittman has written 20 books, including the How to Cook Everything series; Food Matters: A Guide to Conscious Eating; and VB6: Eat Vegan Before 6:00. He’s a former longtime New York Times food writer whose column “The Minimalist,” which ran from 1997 to 2010, focused on the practice and pleasure of cooking. He later became the Sunday Magazine’s lead food writer and the country’s first food-focused Op-Ed columnist. He’s currently a faculty member of Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health.
Individual tickets are $75 for event access and a hardcover copy of How to Eat, or $125 for the event, the book and a Wisconsin Book Festival annual membership. Guests will receive an email containing a link to the live-streamed program on Crowdcast one week before the event. Scroll down to purchase your tickets.
Businesses and individuals interested in becoming a sponsor or purchasing a virtual “table” for eight may call 608.266.6318 or email Foundation Manager Tracy Phillippi at email@example.com. Sponsors and table captains can download our guest list form to provide guest names and contact information.
The majority of funds raised at Lunch for Libraries will go toward the Wisconsin Book Festival, presented by Madison Public Library in partnership with the foundation. The event nets about half of the festival’s privately raised dollars each year. A portion of Lunch for Libraries proceeds is used to provide other library services.
Madison Public Library cardholders can place holds for Bittman’s books via LINKcat, accessible through the library website at madisonpubliclibrary.org. Books can be picked up via the library’s curbside service. The eBook and audiobook formats may be checked out via OverDrive.
We would like to extend a sincere thank you to our virtual Table Captains:
