Making the Most of Year-End Charitable Giving

You’re invited to join Madison Public Library Foundation for its next Educational Series virtual event, “Making the Most of Year-End Charitable Giving.” on Friday, November 19, from noon–1 p.m.
More than one-third of all charitable gifts in the U.S. are made in December. Our panel of experts will discuss the best strategies for maximizing your end-of-year donations, including tax-saving tips such as contributing from an IRA or gifting stock; taking advantage of matching gift opportunities; securing company matching gifts; honoring or memorializing a loved one; and more.
The panel participants will include:
Laura Murray, Financial Advisor at Baird – The Murray Nemeckay Group. Murray’s 17 years of financial services experience includes investment strategy management, financial planning, retirement planning, corporate services and traditional, as well as socially responsible investing. She is also a lecturer in the University of Wisconsin- Madison’s Department of Consumer Science, where she teaches juniors and seniors about financial life skills.
Jessica Schwantes, Partner and CPA at Wipfli LLP. Schwantes, former President of Madison Public Library Foundation’s board, is Wipfli’s Madison market leader and tax partner. She has more than 18 years of experience and deep knowledge of tax laws.
Sheila Boothby Stevens, Partner and member of the Wealth Planning Services practice group at Michael Best & Friedrich LLP, and a former foundation board member. Stevens’ expertise lies in the areas of estate planning, marital property, charitable planning, business succession planning, gift and estate taxation, trusts and estate administration.
Our moderator will be Angela Davis, Development Director at Madison Community Foundation. Davis assists individuals and nonprofits with achieving their philanthropic goals. She is also the staff liaison to A Fund for Women and MCF’s six regional giving partners in the Wisconsin communities of Columbus, Lodi, Middleton, Monona, Portage and Rio. These partners work with MCF to support specific community causes.
