Brunch, Beer Share the Spotlight for Ex Libris Volume V Fundraiser Nov. 13

MADISON, Wis. (Thursday, September 10, 2015) — Looking for an excuse to have your favorite brunch foods for dinner? Even better, how about pairing them with tasters of craft beers, all the while helping to raise funds for Madison Public Library?

Madison Public Library Foundation will present its annual fall fundraiser, Ex Libris Volume V: Beer for Brunch, from 7–10 p.m. Friday, November 13, at Central Library. Tickets are on sale on the foundation’s website,

The lineup of 25-plus local tasting partners will serve samples of morning-meal favorites with a twist. New to this year’s event are Café Hollander, Calliope Ice Cream, Door County Brewing Co., Salvatore’s Tomato Pies, Short Stack Eatery and Pasqual’s, whose cuisine will be paired or infused with beers from Wisconsin’s best breweries.

Menu items include blue corn pancakes with red chili carnitas and eggs, paired with select Wisconsin Brewing Co. beers; ice cream paired with MobCraft’s Batshit Crazy coffee stout; shrimp with cheesy grits, paired with Karben4 brews; and dozens of other samplings. And don’t forget the bloody Mary bar to cap the night.

The Oak Street Ramblers and DJ Rob Dz will provide live music while guests enjoy a golden ticket raffle of Gail Ambrosius chocolate bars, with grand prize jewelry from Studio Jewelers and a Growler a Month for a Year from the Great Dane Pub & Brewing Co. Silent auction items include UW men’s basketball tickets, a Nakoma Golf Club foursome, autographed posters from Morgan Freeman and Kevin Henkes, a Trek bicycle, rare whiskey and other valuable items.

“Our planning committee works very hard to come up with fun, creative themes for Ex Libris each year,” said foundation Executive Director Jenni Collins. “We think this year’s brunch concept will be particularly popular, and we’re excited to host some really fantastic local restaurants and breweries to raise money for library collections, programs, services and capital projects, such as the soon-to-be-built Pinney Library.”

Attendance is capped at 525, so the foundation encourages library supporters to buy tickets early. They’ve sold out quickly the last several years.
The foundation thanks this year’s Ex Libris sponsors that have demonstrated their commitment to strengthening Madison’s public libraries: Presenting Sponsor National Guardian Life Insurance Co.; Sustaining Sponsors Cricket Design Works, von Briesen & Roper, s.c., and Whyte Hirschboeck Dudek S.C.; Contributing Sponsors Exact Sciences, Mohs, MacDonald, Widder, Paradise & Van Note, LLC, Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren S.C., Smith & Gesteland, LLP, Stafford Rosenbaum LLP, SVA CPAs and Consultants, and Wipfli LLP; Supporting Sponsors Tana Elias & Andrew Clarkowski, Annen Roetter LLC, and Michael Best & Friedrich LLP; and Media Partner Edible Madison. It also thanks all of the tasting partner businesses that donate their time, beer and menu items to make the event possible.
