Madison Public Library Foundation recently gave Madison Public Library a $500 mini-grant to support a reorganization of the library’s Spanish and bilingual (English/Spanish) World Language Collection materials.
The World Language Collection includes books, movies, music, and more in numerous languages — including Spanish, French, Japanese, and Arabic — for all ages. The two-year reorganization effort, led by Children’s Librarian Holly Storck-Post, included recategorizing and relabeling 10,000 Spanish and bilingual titles within the collection. The project involved advocating for new collection codes that help the categorization of items, such as picture books or chapter books, which allows the library to decide their placement on the shelves. The new collection codes for juvenile materials in Spanish will help both patrons and staff easily find books in that category.
