Madison Public Library and Madison Public Library Foundation’s Making Justice program, a community-based learning model for at-risk and court-involved teenagers, is entering its second decade of successful programming with new events and thoughtful projects.

Making Justice hosts weekly workshops and artist-in-residence opportunities at the Dane County Juvenile Detention Center and Shelter Home with the goal of fostering community and self-expression through various outlets, such as graphic art, photography, podcasting, performance, video, and more.

This year, Making Justice staff are leaning into “pivot-based project learning,” providing options for participants to choose from, whether it be group or individual pursuits. Some new projects this year include quarterly workshops at UnityPoint’s Adolescent Psychiatry classrooms, audio storytelling with Operations Fresh Start, and digital media projects with Briarpatch Youth Services and Mentoring Positives.

These programs would not be possible without our 2023-24 donors. Thank you to Endres Manufacturing Co., Public Health Madison Dane County, and The Capital Times Kids Fund for their recent donations!
