Claire Titelbaum, a freshman at West High School, was raised with a deep love of books. Her favorites are Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card, the Scythe books by Neal Shusterman, and The Giver by Lois Lowry. “I love the library because I love to read,” she says. “The library gives me access to as many books as I want to read in whatever genre. I also love the library because it is a special place where I am surrounded by books and other people who love books.”
This is the third consecutive year that Claire has donated to Madison Public Library Foundation. She earned the money she contributed this year by babysitting. “I donated to Madison Public Library Foundation because I love the library,” she said. “The library has given so much to me, and I wanted to give back to it.”
Claire says she wants to be an author and editor when she grows up and often chooses book-related school assignments when she can. This year, Claire did her National History Day submission on how Ursula K. Le Guin was a pioneer in the field of science fiction. When we spoke with her earlier this year, she was working on a paper comparing the many varied rewritten versions of Pride and Prejudice (zombies! kittens!), all of which she checked out from the library!
