Madison Public Library Foundation regularly hosts interns to support our staff. Interns work in our office and at foundation events. As a nonprofit organization, we believe that internships are vital to both student and professional success. Internships provide students with hands-on experience and industry connections, bring new ideas to the table, and allow us to do more in the areas of events planning, marketing and PR, and development.
This year, we have three interns — a Development Intern, Events Intern, and Communications Intern — who work around 12 to 15 hours a week throughout the summer and school year. Today, we introduce you to our Events Intern, Nathan Baker!
As Events Intern, Nathan is vital to planning and executing foundation events. You may find him coordinating the catering for a committee meeting or soliciting silent auction items or corporate sponsorships for Ex Libris. He is the right-hand man to all things events-related.
Nathan is from Grafton, Wis., and will be a senior at UW–Madison. His major is international studies. After graduation, Nathan plans to pursue a career with social impact. He’s also considering pursuing a master’s degree in public affairs or applying to law school.
Outside of academics, Nathan enjoys running, spending time with family and friends, and coming up with great business schemes but not following through with them, he jokes. He has a cat named Pico and a Dutch Shepherd dog named Reyna. Once, Nathan caught a space cold after attending an event with an astronaut — which he found to be well worth it!
The most recent book he read is Evil Eyes Sea by Özge Samancı.
We’re so grateful to Nathan for the time he dedicates to planning, promoting, and executing foundation events!
