Madison Public Library Foundation regularly hosts interns to support our staff. Interns work in our office and at foundation events. As a nonprofit organization, we believe that internships are vital to both student and professional success. Internships provide students with hands-on experience and industry connections, bring new ideas to the table, and allow us to do more in the areas of events planning, marketing and PR, and development.
This year, we have three interns — a Development Intern, Events Intern, and Communications Intern — who work around 12 to 15 hours a week throughout the summer and school year. Today, we introduce you to our Communications Intern, Ray Kirsch!
Ray is essential in assisting with email communications like this edition, as well as social media, video work, and special projects.
Ray grew up in La Crosse and will be a senior at UW–Madison this fall. Their majors are English (creative writing emphasis) and journalism (reporting track) with a certificate in gender and women’s studies. Ray hopes to pursue a career in publishing/editorial roles while hopefully writing their own books too. They’re also interested in video and audio editing.
Ray’s hobbies include playing video games, listening to music and making Spotify playlists, drawing, and bullet journaling — which is adjacent to drawing but more calligraphy-focused. They also love going to concerts; recent favorites include Phony Ppl and Hippo Campus.
Ray’s latest book is Time Is a Thing a Body Moves Through by T. Fleischmann.
We’re so grateful for Ray for their dedication to promoting the foundation and library! Watch for a story about Events Intern Nathan Baker in an upcoming e-news edition.
