Madison Public Library Foundation issued the 2021 Elizabeth Moon Proctor Scholarship to Rakayah Johnson, a Central Library Page who works in Technical Services.

Johnson, who grew up in DeForest, Wis. and has worked at the library for five years, is pursuing an early childhood education degree with a certification in ESL (English as a Second Language) at UW-Madison. She was a Library Page at Lakeview Library before her recent move to Central.

“I love working in the library setting because it’s relaxed, and I feel extremely comfortable being myself,” she said. “Over the years, I’ve enjoyed meeting a diverse group of people!”

Established in memory of Elizabeth “Betsy” Moon Proctor, the scholarship fund encourages and assists Madison Public Library employees planning careers in library and information studies. Betsy enriched and enlivened Madison Public Library from 1967 until her retirement in 1996.
