SUPPORT madison public library’s NEWEST FACILITY

Pinney: An East Side Treasure

The beautiful new Pinney Library briefly celebrated its grand opening in early March before COVID-19 forced its closure. Located in Ruedebusch Development & Construction’s Royster Corners mixed-use development at 516 Cottage Grove Road, Pinney is the third-busiest library of Madison Public Library’s nine locations. Once it’s safe for libraries to reopen,
it will serve as an east side community hub — a safe place to read, learn, relax and connect. The foundation raised $1.6 million in private funds for the $10.2 million project. Capital expenses consumed $1.2 million of that total, with additional funds raised for the library’s endowment and future programming.

About the Library

The new Pinney Library is pedestrian-friendly, with Madison Metro bus access, plenty of bike racks and lots of parking. It’s a model building for sustainability, recently attaining LEED Gold certification. Other features include:

  • a flexible program room that seats 100
  • dedicated spaces for teens and children
  • updated technology, including a laptop checkout program
  • an outdoor space for events and programs
  • a quiet reading room
  • a drive-through book drop

The library is currently offering curbside service for pickup of collection items, and the drive-through book drop is open. Computer appointments are also available. Visit the library website for the most current hours and available services.

You Can Help

Here are some ways you can support your favorite library:

Give to our annual fund. These unrestricted dollars are used to fund all nine libraries’ collections, technology, professional development and special programs.

Give to Pinney Library. Library staff decide how to use your gift for collections, new programs (or online ones), outreach to the community, or equipment and supplies.

Give to the Pinney Library Endowment Fund. This permanently restricted endowment is held at Madison Community Foundation and provides a distribution for the library each year. Endowment gifts support long-term sustainability.

Make an estate gift. By planning to “give later,” you can support libraries for years to come by including Madison Public Library Foundation in your will, or as a beneficiary of a IRA, 401(k) or insurance plan. Visit our Giving Later page for more details.
