Moon Proctor Scholarship Goes to Majeska

Central Library Page Hannah Majeska is the 2017 recipient of the Elizabeth Moon Proctor Scholarship.

Majeska, a graduate student in Library and Information Studies at UW-Madison, said she is honored to accept this year’s scholarship.

An aspiring public librarian, Majeska said she strongly believes in the “intellectual, social, and economic value that library collections and services provide.” She is particularly interested in working in collections management and reference. Both areas, Majeska said, “require a strong commitment to intellectual freedom and understanding of the community.”

Majeska has been involved with Madison Public Library in a variety of ways, including her roles as Media Lab Intern at Central Library last summer, and as Development Intern for Madison Public Library Foundation in 2015.

The scholarship fund was established in memory of Elizabeth “Betsy” Moon Proctor to encourage and assist Madison Public Library employees who plan careers in library studies. From 1967 until her retirement in 1996, Proctor was a cherished Madison Public Library employee, enriching the lives of many through her tireless dedication to public library service.
